Xiangxi Cinnabar Bracelet — Raw

Cinnabar in its raw form looks different from the processed variety — less uniform, more alive. The beads are cut directly from ore, which means each one carries slight variations in tone: some patches deeper red, some almost brown where the mineral concentration shifts. This is not a flaw. It is the record of how the stone formed.

The same mineral, the same mountain, the same Taoist tradition — but without the gold charm, without the jade spacers. Just the cinnabar, worn smooth by handling, doing what it has always done in Xiangxi: marking a boundary.

The beads are heavier than they look. The red is not bright — it sits closer to dried lacquer than fresh paint. After months of wear, the surface develops a faint sheen that raw cinnabar produces on its own, without polish.
